"le civette" / suoni moderni basati su ancestrali ricordi

la fisarmonica come sintetizzatore acustico

Il titolo "le civette" si riferisce a due entità, una in carne ed ossa, cioè la mia amica russa Elizaveta, e un'altra di stoffa, creata dalle sue mani. Si intravedono nella foto di copertina.

Elizaveta mi mandò un pacco, tempo fa, a mia insaputa, che conteneva anche questa civetta di stoffa. Questo pacco però non giunse mai a destinazione, forse perché il corriere non trovò nessuno al mio indirizzo e non lasciò nessuna cartolina di avviso, anche perché abito in campagna e sulla cassetta delle lettere non c'era ancora scritto il mio nome. Dunque, questa civetta, dopo un viaggio di circa 4500 km., girovagò ancora per circa sei mesi per l'Europa prima di tornare in Russia, di nuovo a casa della mia amica. Con lei anche dei cioccolatini, che subirono una fantasiosa trasformazione...

Il fallimento della spedizione però non è stato vano: ha permesso anzi al nostro rapporto di rinsaldarsi, perchè ne abbiamo riso molto, anche se a distanza.

Ora la civetta di stoffa sta a casa di una sua amica, e sembra che stia bene.

L'idea generale di quest'album è quella di voler creare una serie di personaggi che abitano non in una casa cittadina di tipo moderno, ma in una vecchia casa di campagna dove si sono vissuti e si vivono ancora momenti quasi bucolici. Si è voluto umanizzare insetti, animali, persino un raggio di sole! E le civette guardano tutto questo da quel ramo lassù...

In questo album tutti i brani sono improvvisazioni, alcuni totally free, altri partono da un'idea minima iniziale riguardante suoni e/o ritmi.
Le tracce 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 e 12 sono state registrate dal vivo, con minimi effetti (reverbero, delay, flanger, chorus, ecc.) e non sono state elaborate successivamente.
La traccia 6 è una specie di anomalo "noise" creato dai suoni della fisarmonica, agendo cioè dando al noise un andamento melodico e ritmico e rendendolo musicale.
La traccia 9 consta di una sovraincisione di fischio, voce e fisarmonica.
La traccia 13 è stata ottenuta con l'effetto Paulstretch.
Le tracce 14 e 15 sono frutto della collaborazione con Volker Störtebeker, che nelle tracce 10 e 6 ha usato, interpretandole, rispettivamente il trombone e la voce.
La traccia 16 è una fusione tra le voci di Elizaveta e la mia elaborate elettronicamente, con sottofondo di una mia vecchia polka, suonata in sei tonalità differenti.

La fisarmonica utilizzata è una Bugari a bassi sciolti.

Questa pubblicazione è dedicata alla mia amica/sorella dell'anima, la russa Elizaveta Fedorova. Avendo lei potuto ascoltare i brani prima della mia pubblicazione, senza che io le inviassi altro che la sola musica e i titoli, alla fine commenta, da civetta, e tira fuori le sue prime impressioni.

"le civette" (the owls) / modern sounds based on ancestral memories

the accordion as an acoustic synthesizer

The title "le civette" refers to two entities, one in flesh and blood, that is my Russian friend Elizaveta, and another made of cloth, created by her hands. They're glimpsed in the cover photo.

Elizaveta sent me a package, some time ago, without my knowledge, which also contained this cloth owl. However, this package never reached its destination, perhaps because the courier didn't find anyone at my address and didn't leave any notice cards, also because I live in the countryside and my name was not yet written on the mailbox. Therefore, this owl, after a journey of about 4500 km., wandered around Europe for about six months before returning to Russia, again at my friend's house. With her also some chocolates, which underwent a fanciful transformation...

The failure of the expedition, however, was not in vain: it allowed our relationship to strengthen, because we laughed a lot, even if at a distance.

Now the cloth owl is at home of a friend of her, and it looks like she is fine.

The general idea of this album is to want to create a series of characters who live not in a modern town house, but in an old country house where they lived and are still living almost bucolic moments. I wanted to humanize insects, animals, even a ray of sunshine! And the owls look at all this from that branch up there...

In this album all the songs are improvisations, some totally free, others start from a minimal initial idea regarding sounds and/or rhythms.
Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 were recorded live, with minimal effects (reverb, delay, flanger, chorus, etc.) and were not processed later.
Track 6 is a kind of anomalous "noise" created by the sounds of the accordion, ie acting by giving the noise a melodic and rhythmic trend and making it musical.
Track 9 consists of an overdub of whistle, voice and accordion.
Track 13 was obtained with the Paulstretch effect.
Tracks 14 and 15 are the result of the collaboration with Volker Störtebeker, who in tracks 10 and 6 used, interpreting them, respectively the trombone and the voice.
Track 16 is a fusion between Elizaveta's voices and mine, electronically elaborated, with the background of an old polka of mine, played in six different keys.

The accordion used is a Bugari with free basses.

This publication is dedicated to my friend/soul sister, the russian Elizaveta Fedorova. Having been able to listen to the songs before the release of this album, without me sending her anything but the music and the titles, in the end she comments, like an owl, and brings out her first impressions.
